Official Mission Statement

The organization's purpose is to educate the general public about contemporary classical music through the performances and other related activities of eighth blackbird, a chamber music ensemble committed to the performance of contemporary classical music.

These activities include the public performance of recitals of contemporary classical music throughout the United States and abroad; the performance of specific educational programs consisting of contemporary music and other media; the offering of lectures, lecture demonstrations, and masterclasses; and the sponsorship of the creation of new works by composers, particularly the sponsorship of new works by American composers, for public performance.
