Tonight we bring you TWO feature presentations:
Part I: Canadian throat-singing superstar Tanya Tagaq joins the WSO String Orchestra to present a special performance of works by our Canadian distinguished guest composer, Derek Charke. John Psathas takes us on a spiritual journey with his Abhisheka, and Michael Matthews brings us into the world of nature with his work, The Language of Water.
Part II: We are proud to present as this year’s distinguished guest ensemble, eighth blackbird (2007 Grammy Award-winner). Tonight, they present an evening of critically acclaimed works! Hear Thomas Adés’ humorous musical offering, Catch, along with Gordon Fitzell’s Evanescence. Also featured is Stephen Hartke’s masterpiece, Meanwhile (finalist for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize), and Steve Reich’s 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning work, Double Sextet.
