Lisa Kaplan, piano,
has performed across the United States as both soloist and chamber
musician. As a founding member of eighth
blackbird she has won numerous awards, including the prestigious
Naumburg award. Ms. Kaplan holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory
of Music, Oberlin College, the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati
and Northwestern University. An avid performer of contemporary
repertoire, Ms. Kaplan has been featured as soloist with orchestras
in Ohio, Arkansas and Texas and has collaborated with such artists
as Ida Kavafian, Lucy Shelton, Tony Arnold and the Pacifica string
quartet. Ms. Kaplan has also performed in the greater Chicago
area with the new music groups Fulcrum Point and Present Music. Her
principal teachers include Burton Hatheway, Sanford Margolis, and Ursula
Oppens.
Ms. Kaplan, a native of Detroit, Michigan, grew up in Connecticut.
In addition to her love of music and the arts, she is an aspiring photographer
and enjoys cooking and eating fine food. She also enjoys adventuring
with her family. Ms. Kaplan has climbed to the summit of Mt.
Kilimanjaro, braved the Australian outback, and survived encounters
with grizzly bears in the Brooks Range of Alaska. Her next adventure
will be hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu.
