As part of our University of Chicago residency work we play about ten new doctoral and masters student compositions in the U of C’s Tomorrow’s Music Today concert series. We play works written for our instrumental combination as well as taking part in pieces scored for a larger, so-called “sinfonietta”-sized ensemble.
One work stood out as very unique in this year’s batch, David M Gordon’s Quasi Sinfonia. I wrote previously about my impressions of the work, particularly its unusual instrumentation and very individual sound-world.
Well, David has put a recording of the live performance on his website, and I encourage you to check it out!
