You wanted to get up and dance

Andrew Patner, one of the country’s most respected (and sometimes most brutal - see his 8bb review from October 2006) classical critics, has reviewed our Saturday night Harris Theater concert.

According to Patner, we successfully “presented one of the most organically realized evenings of music that took the best of several disciplines, discarded classifications and arrived at enchantment.” The remixes were “subtle and dramatic”, and even our beginners’ attempt at a Radiohead song, in Cliff Colnot’s arrangement, “was wholly appealing, complete with sly highlights in the scoring and violinist Matt Albert doing a pretty good Thom Yorke with the chorus.”

Patner was most impressed by the last piece, David M. Gordon’s Friction Systems, which “was astonishing in its blend of the composer’s ideas and tight focus, the now-customary virtuosity of the players and De Santis’ ability at making new aural universes. You wanted to get up and dance.” If only that had been possible in the Harris!
