T-Money and the Change

I’ve had a variety of nicknames through my life.

My 7th grade tennis coach had me pegged as “Money-bags Munro” (for no particularly good financial reason); I was “Timmy-T” to my choir-geek friends at high school; and, like my brother, I’ve been treated to “Munners” most of my adult life.

So it was no surprise when the Duv started in on “T-Money” sometime last season, but, in typical Duv fashion, he didn’t ever let me in on exactly where the nickname came from.

It turns out that at Oberlin there was band called “T-Money and the Change”, and apparently the name stayed with him. I can only find one lowly web page with any electronic evidence that this band ever existed, a drummer’s online resume, which unfortunately now seems to be a dead link. Thank god for the cache:

Performances and recordings with:

Tom Christensen (42n Street), Byron Stripling (Count Basie Orchestra), Juggling Suns, Dope (opened for De La Soul on tour 1994), Dan Seiden (Lisa Loeb, Jewel), Lunar Detour, Kivi, T-Money and The Change, The King Wes Posse,

T-Money and The Change may be dead forever, but the name will forever live on in the Duv’s incessant name-calling….

Tim- This nickname is a huge compliment. T-Money and the Change were one of the all time great party bands. Thanks for reminding me of them.

I wonder if I have an old Oberlin Review with a mention of them somewhere. Good ol’ Tim Ruedeman.
